Katalin Novák: “My presidency is about the Hungarian people”

Hungary Today 2023.05.12.

“My presidency is about the Hungarian people, and I would like them to feel that I am working as the President of the Republic of Hungary for all Hungarians,” said Katalin Novák on the occasion of the first anniversary of her assumption of office as president, on Wednesday at the Sándor Palace.

The president said she wanted to celebrate the day with those with whom she had shared the past year, as it had been a year of meetings, which meant that every day had a new face, an opportunity to get to know each other, and to hear each other’s stories.

Katalin Novák said that she wanted everyone to feel that she is working as the president of every Hungarian, and she plans to continue to do so for the remaining four years. Some 300 invited guests from different parts of Hungary and beyond the borders went to Sándor Palace on Wednesday to mark the occasion.

The president highlighted that this year she had the opportunity to experience that Hungary’s wealth is not in its natural resources or economic treasures, but primarily in the people who live here in Hungary, in the Carpathian Basin, or in the diaspora as Hungarians.

The Hungarian people are Hungary’s economy, she stressed.

She emphasized that she wanted to bring the spotlight to places where few people receive it in everyday life. She is doing all this because she wants more people to see Hungary’s most remote treasures, the people who live there, with their everyday struggles, successes, and failures.

Novák launched her national tour last year, during which she will visit all 19 Hungarian counties during her presidency to meet the people who live there. This fits perfectly with her vision that her presidency is about the Hungarian people and how she wants to raise awareness of all Hungarians. The president has so far visited Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, and Somogy counties, spending several days in each place.
