Justice Min: University Model Change Represents Freedom, Responsibility

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.01.18.

The new operational model that sees universities shifting from being state-run to being operated by foundations represents freedom and responsibility, the justice minister said on Monday.

Addressing a roundtable discussion in Budapest, Judit Varga said the university model change was “one of the most fantastic things” to happen to Hungarian universities over the past 50-100 years.

Varga, who heads the supervisory board of the University of Miskolc (ME), said the foundation model allowed universities like ME to put greater emphasis on their regional responsibility.

Meanwhile, Varga also stressed the importance of incorporating the interests and ideas of young people into legislation.

On another subject, the minister said Hungary was among the top three European Union countries contributing to the ongoing series of conferences on the bloc’s future.
