After Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony and DK’s Klára Dobrev, Péter Jakab is the third candidate to collect enough signatures to be in the primaries. The required amount for each candidate is 20,000 signatures.
Instead of the required amount, Jakab’s team collected 31,800 signatures. Jakab announced this on his Facebook page, adding that Jobbik’s 47 candidates who are running in individual districts, have also collected more than the essential 400 signatures.
The first round of the opposition primaries will be held between the 18th and 26th of September. Hungarians can vote for both candidates for prime minister and individual candidates during this period. The top three prime minister candidates will have another round between the 4th and 10th of October. After this, it will be determined who will be Viktor Orbán’s opponent in 2022.
Other candidates can still hand in their signatures until the 6th of September if they collect the required amount.
