On April 5, Head of State Tamás Sulyok awarded one of the highest state decorations to János Martonyi, former foreign minister and member of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of Hungary Foundation (publisher of our newspaper and Ungarn Heute).

The President announced the event on his social media page. In his post, he praised Mr. Martonyi for his services to the public good, in addition to his achievements in diplomacy and international relations.

The former Hungarian Foreign Minister (1998-2002 and 2010-2014) was awarded the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit at the Sándor Palace in Buda Castle. The decoration is given for outstanding and exemplary service to the nation, the country’s development, the promotion of the country’s interests, and the enrichment of universal human values.

A conference was held on the same day in honor of the former minister, who celebrated his 80th birthday.
