Fact

The Széchenyi Prize is a Hungarian state award for outstanding members of the scientific community. The government decides on the nominees for the award and submits a proposal to the president. It is awarded by the president on the proposal of the Prime Minister.

The Hungarian Cross of Merit is the fifth highest state decoration of Hungary. The decoration comes in civil and military divisions, both of which are divided into three classes: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

The degrees of the Cross of Merit are awarded to people who have performed exemplary activities in the fields of culture, science, art, and their own specialization, in the promotion of the interests of Hungary, and the enrichment of universal human values.
