International Ballet Competition to Take Place in Budapest this Weekend

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.22.

An international ballet competition will be held in Budapest this weekend. At this year’s Grand Audition event, 145 young talents will be invited to audition in front of professionals from foreign dance companies at the Hungarian Dance University (MTE).

In its press release, the MTE recalled that the Grand Audition, which has been held in Paris and Barcelona for several years, was held for the first time in Budapest last year. The first event in Hungary brought many contract offers to young ballet students. From Ernst Meisner, Junior Company Director of the Dutch National Ballet, to Raimondo Rebeck, Director of the Staatsballett Karlsruhe, to Nicolas Le Riche, Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, this year’s audition will attract a distinguished line-up of professionals.

The Hungarian Dance University aims to put itself back on the international ballet map, and the Grand Audition is a major opportunity in this effort.

Tamás Nagy, ballet artist and Chairman of the Artistic Council of the MTE, has played a major role in bringing the Grand Audition to Hungary. Dance company managers and directors will have the opportunity to choose the dancers they like best from the young people selected by the Grand Audition’s highly professional team on the basis of two days of stage performances, the press release quotes him as saying. He added that last year’s event brought many contract offers and they hope that many more will be able to join companies of outstanding artistic quality as a result of the Budapest audition weekend.
