For the government, family policy is not just one issue among many, but should be the most important one, the Secretary of State for Welfare Policy of the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday in Mátészalka, eastern Hungary. Attila Fülöp attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new crèche of the Roman Catholic Church, which will be built with more than 603 million forints (EUR 1.5 million).
The politician underlined it was a matter of destiny for the Hungarian nation that every child a family could wish for should be born. If families do not have children, the nation will not survive the next period, he said, stressing that the importance of the family and family policy should not be overlooked despite the difficult economic situation and the war in the neighborhood.
As regards the creation of crèches, he highlighted that
the number of crèche places in Hungary is almost double that of 2010, at 61,500, and there are such institutions in 1,055 municipalities, three times more than thirteen years ago.
The Hungarian government has provided HUF 200 billion (EUR 521.7 million) from the budget and EU funds in recent years and will continue to do so in the coming period to ensure that more places are created.
Referring to the investment in Mátészalka, the Secretary of State pointed out that
the development would strengthen the community’s capacity to hold on to its resources and help families living there to use a local service without having to move to another settlement.
In addition to the facility, scheduled for completion next summer, several similar projects are under way in Mátészalka, including a large playground in one of the town’s neighborhoods, a long-standing wish of local residents, said Mayor Péter Hanusi at the ceremony. The region’s MP, Sándor Kovács, also attended the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighting that it is the resources and faith invested in future generations that will keep Hungary alive.
The diocese won 475 million forints (EUR 1.2 million) for the investment in the nursery through the government’s Széchenyi Plusz program, and another 128 million forints (EUR 333,900) were provided from the budget. The modern building of the Roman Catholic crèche, with three classrooms, will provide for the education of 42 children.
