Increased Agricultural Cooperation with the U.S. in Sight

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.05.06.

New dimensions are opening up in agrobusiness relations between Hungary and the United States, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy, who received Robert Palladino, the interim Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Hungary, at his office on Monday.

The minister pointed out that Hungary is fundamentally renewing its agriculture and food industry, and in this process the country is counting on the cooperation of the United States in terms of knowledge and technology. The government will also support domestic investments with an intensity of 50 percent for the processing industry, livestock production, plants, storage facilities, and irrigation development, reads the statement of the Agriculture Ministry.

The Hungarian agricultural sector is a good match for the technical background of the United States that we need to exploit even more. There are a number of segments in the manufacturing and agricultural machinery industries where we can further collaborate,”

he added.

István Nagy also pointed out that the best investment is knowledge, which is why it is crucial to strengthen scientific and educational links. “It is crucial for young Hungarians to be able to participate in the overseas education system. There are also further opportunities for exchanges of teachers and students, as we are linked in many areas,” reads the statement.

Mr. Nagy said that in our ever-changing world, agriculture and the food industry have a key role to play. “We must adapt to extreme weather conditions, production conditions, technological needs, and societal expectations. Our task is to find the right answers to the questions that arise. In this context, we need to give farmers a vision of the future that makes it worthwhile to produce safe food,” wrote the ministry.

The minister drew the attention of his interlocutor to the National Agriculture and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK), which will be held in September this year. Participation in the event is also a great opportunity for the U.S. to showcase itself, the ministry said.
