Hydrogen has an important role in many areas of the energy industry.Continue reading
Hydrogen fuel cell buses will be tested on the roads of the Budapest agglomeration – between Budapest, Kelenföld station, and Szigethalom – from January 22, 2024, for at least half a year.
A trial operation was held in December as part of a one-year demonstration pilot project by HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency, a member of the Széchenyi University Group. In addition to the metropolitan agglomeration, hydrogen fuel cell buses will also be put into service periodically in Debrecen (eastern Hungary), Győr, Zalaegerszeg (both in western Hungary), Kecskemét (central Hungary), Kaposvár (southwestern Hungary), and Miskolc (northeastern Hungary).
It was pointed out that the test run of the bus in December had been positive.
In the demonstration project, a hydrogen-powered, 12-meter, three-door, low-floor, air-conditioned Toyota CaetanoBus H2.City Gold will be available for passengers to test according to the timetable available on the Volánbusz website. The bus will be serviced by the owner of the vehicle, Truck-Trailer & Parts, based in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary).
The vehicle can carry 35 seated and 34 standing passengers. The five fuel tanks can store a total of 37.5 kilograms of hydrogen gas.
The bus can travel 400 kilometers on a single charge, taking about 20-30 minutes.
In addition to the 60 Kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell system, a 180 KW Siemens electric motor and 44 kilowatt-hour lithium titanate oxide traction batteries support the vehicle’s efficient, environmentally friendly operation, noted Volánbusz, detailing the vehicle’s technical parameters.
This is the second time after February 2022, that Volánbusz will test a hydrogen-powered vehicle with HUMDA. On the first occasion, a Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen bus was used to provide passengers and professionals with positive experiences.
In the current pilot project, this type of vehicle will also return to Volánbusz: in spring and autumn, it will be in service in Zalaegerszeg and Győr for a month each.
