Traditional equestrian associations from historic Hungary and Poland will gather on Saturday for the 19th Nyíregyháza (Eastern Hungary) Hussar Meeting. During the two-day program, the equestrian bands will introduce themselves to the community with a parade, and there will also be martial arts demonstrations and craft workshops.
Before the opening ceremony at Országzászló Square, the invited traditionalist associations will introduce themselves to the local residents in a parade, and after the speeches and wreath laying, the program will feature a ceremonial salute and a hussar charge.
The program will continue in the afternoon at the Sóstó Museum Village, where a meeting of hussar generations will be organized, with folk games, combat and weapon demonstrations, and a presentation by the 1848 “galloping” artillerymen to entertain young and old alike.
There will be airsoft shooting, and those interested can listen to a historical lecture on the buried documents of the 1st Hussar Division, found in Austria in May this year. The courageous can take part in a firefighting exercise, police dogs will be introduced, and those interested can make hussar hats and girls’ party hats as part of the craft activities.
Equestrian tradition preservation associations from all over historic Hungary are expected to attend the event, as well as hussars from Poland.
The Sunday program will conclude with a commemoration in the Hussar Memorial Garden, where guests will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the memorial’s creation.
