Hungary’s newest motorway section on the M6 between Bóly and Lippó (both in southern Hungary near the border) was recently opened to traffic. The project of national importance cost almost HUF 90 billion (EUR 231 million) net, writes Világgazdaság.
The Deputy State Secretary for Road Works announced at the Bóly junction of the motorway that
on Thursday morning, the newest section of the M6 motorway was opened to traffic.
In addition, József Pántya noted that the almost 20-kilometer section to Ivándárda (southern Hungary) was completed by the deadline of January 31, with Hungarian funding, by Strabag Építő and Duna Aszfalt. The project is worth HUF 88.6 billion (EUR 227 million) net.
Magyar Építők recalled that the foundation stone for the 20-kilometer section between Bóly and Ivándárda was laid in July 2021. As of yesterday, traffic could start between Bóly and the Villány (southern Hungary) junction at Lippó, while the rest of the section up to the border will be ready for use after the completion of the continuation of the motorway in Croatia.
Back in 2010, Strabag was also responsible for the construction of the M6 Szekszárd-Bóly motorway and the M60 Bóly-Pécs section. With the missing section now completed, the Hungarian motorway network has been extended with a new border crossing with Croatia. As part of the project, three traffic junctions, 16 bridges, and a rest stop were built.
A turnkey depot with an office building and a gas station was also constructed. The main purpose of the new section is to build the Hungarian section of the Ten-T network (Trans-European Transport Network) between the Adriatic and the Baltic Sea. The government had promised to complete the section by 2024, which has been fulfilled.
