Hungary’s Largest Hotel Open to Refugees

Hungary Today 2022.03.04.

A hotel at the Eastern Railway Station in Budapest, Danubius Hotel Hungaria, which had been closed for months, is now open to refugees of the Russian-Ukrainian war at full capacity from March 1.

The 499-room hotel will also provide meals for refugees arriving through partner organizations and will offer rooms for up to weeks to those in need, adding that the company’s management is also looking into the possibility of providing additional accommodation.

Our company cannot remain inactive in the tragic situation in a neighboring country. We feel it is our duty to help those fleeing the war, to contribute to their care,”

said Balázs Kovács, CEO of Danubius Hotels.

The reopening of the hotel was not planned until months later, but with “extraordinary cooperation and mobilization of the company’s staff,” it has already been opened for the benefit of war refugees. The provision of accommodation could last for several weeks.
