A delegation of the European Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee (CONT), including German MEP Daniel Freund, will visit Hungary between 15-17 May to monitor the use of EU funds.
The delegation includes Katalin Cseh of Momentum, Sándor Rónai of the Democratic Coalition, and Daniel Freund, Green MEP, Hungary’s frequent critic, who made it clear that “if Hungary does not change its attitude, it will not continue to receive EU funds.” The delegation is led by Monika Hohlmeier, the Bavarian Christian Socialist (CSU) chair of the committee.
Members of the delegation will meet representatives of the opposition press, political parties, and NGOs. They will be received by János Bóka, Minister of State of the Ministry of Justice, Ferenc Vágujhelyi, Head of the National Tax Administration, Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Regional Development, Ferenc Bíró, Head of the Integrity Authority, and the standing committees of the Parliament.
It is clearer than ever that Brussels is withholding the EU funds to which we Hungarians are entitled by law for the most primitive political pressure, and their latest visit to Budapest fits this pattern,”
Tamás Deutsch, MEP of the governing Fidesz party, told Mandiner.
