Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, spoke with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov on Monday about the upcoming US-Russia summit.
The Minister reported on Facebook that the significance of this week’s meeting between the US and Russian presidents is “visible even from the moon,” and that in the coming days, “Alaska will undoubtedly be the most searched geographical name in internet search engines.”
“This afternoon, I reviewed the international political situation ahead of the summit in a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov,” he said.
I reaffirmed Hungary’s position that the solution to the war in Ukraine lies not on the battlefield but at the negotiating table, which is most likely to be achieved through an agreement between the US and Russia. Hungary therefore welcomes and eagerly awaits the meeting between the US and Russian presidents,”
he emphasized.
This week, all eyes are on Alaska as the meeting between the American and Russian presidents could be a decisive step toward ending the war in Ukraine.

“We have always argued in favor of a ceasefire, peace talks and keeping diplomatic channels open, even when we were subjected to vulgar attacks from European and former US political leaders,” he continued. Péter Szijjártó called it regrettable that
the warmongering politicians of the European Union are trying to use every day remaining until Friday to undermine the path to peace and prevent the Trump-Putin meeting from succeeding.”
“Hungary is interested in the success of the summit, we will provide all necessary support, and we will do everything in our power to prevent Brussels’ attempts to undermine and complicate the summit,” he concluded.
