Hungary is again helping Ukraine with the fight against coronavirus through a donation of 120 ventilators, half of which will be set up in hospitals in Transcarpathia, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Monday.

On the way to a Brussels meeting of European Union foreign ministers, Szijjártó said on Facebook that similarly to a previous donation of similar size, the ventilators will be delivered with the help of the Ecumenical Charity.

Commenting on the meeting, he said it was scheduled to address the tensions that developed in eastern Europe.

“Hungary has a vested interest in peace and we therefore expect the large players in world politics to continue high-level dialogue which represents the only hope for a peaceful solution,” he said.

“Even though we understand that relations between Hungary and Ukraine are burdened with tensions, with Ukraine repeatedly violating the rights of ethnic Hungarian communities, Hungary has always expressed support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he added.

“We have always helped Ukrainians when they were in trouble and they needed any support and help in the fight against the pandemic,” Szijjártó said.
