Hungary, Ukraine Gas Transmission Operators Agree to Extend Firm Capacity Supply Pilot Period

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.01.25.

Hungary and Ukraine’s gas transmission operators have agreed to extend a pilot period for offering firm gas supply capacities to Ukraine until the end of September, Hungarian system operator FGSZ Földgázszállító, said on Monday.

FGSZ reached an agreement with Ukraine’s gas transmission operator OGTSU last month on offering firm capacity in the direction of Ukraine for the first quarter of 2022. Under Monday’s deal, Ukraine will have access to the 3,532,015 kWh/h firm capacities until Sept. 30, the end of the 2021/22 gas year.

The extension of the pilot period will give gas traders on the Austrian, Slovak, Croatian, and Hungarian markets access to the Ukrainian market under more favorable terms, FGSZ said, adding that Ukraine would be able to import more gas from Hungary after the expiry of the period.
