We have learned in the past year that Qatar is a country of key importance to Europe because much of the Russian gas lost by our continent’s economy has been replaced with LNG received from Qatar, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message from Doha.
The prime minister traveled to Doha on Sunday for an official visit initiated by Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. According to Viktor Orbán, they held a lengthy, exhausting, and successful negotiation with his counterpart.
Orbán announced that Hungary would also purchase gas from Qatar.
It is always better to have more than one option,”
he stressed.
The prime minister noted that Qatar is a country of outstanding economic performance that is present around the world. Also, it belongs to the “peace camp,” is interested in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible, and is willing to contribute by acting as a mediator in peace talks.
“We agreed about infrastructural and airport development as well as cooperation in communication technology and even in agricultural matters. A strong perspective has opened for economic cooperation between Qatar and Hungary,” Orbán concluded.
