The number of births declined by an annual 5.9 percent in July to 8,153, and the number of deaths edged down by 1.7 percent to 9,632, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Thursday.
Population decline was up by 30 percent from July 2020, with deaths outstripping births by 1,479, KSH said.
The number of marriages increased, with 9,605 couples tying the knot, 28 percent more than in the same period in 2020.
Preliminary figures show that there were 52,320 births in Jan-July, down 691 from the same period a year earlier. The number of deaths was 90,201, 21 percent (15,629) more than in Jan-May 2020.
The rise in deaths and the drop in the birth rate means that the rate of natural population decline was up by 76 percent compared with the same period last year, KSH said.
