As there are nearly one million people living with some form of disability in Hungary, the government “is working to ensure that both the healthy and the disabled can find their place in society,” the human resources ministry said on Friday, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

“The government’s goal is to ensure that everyone who wants to should be able to work to the best of their ability and support their families from an income they earn,” the ministry said in a statement.

It noted government support totaling 50.1 billion forints (EUR 137.6m) for the employment of people living with disabilities by accredited companies for the scheme in 2021 and increases in monthly rehabilitation and disabled benefits.

At present some 44 percent of the people living with disabilities have jobs, up from 18 percent in 2010, the ministry said.
