Hungary has finalized an agreement with the US company Axiom Space to launch the second Hungarian astronaut into space on the company’s upcoming Ax-4 mission, Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research announced.
During the mission, the astronaut will spend 14 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), conducting scientific experiments that will advance Hungary’s space sector and enhance its competitive position in the rapidly developing space industry of the 21st century.
The exact launch date of the mission is yet to be determined and will be decided jointly by Axiom Space and NASA.
Specialists from the HUNOR program will continue to collaborate with partners and Axiom Space to ensure the successful preparation and implementation of the scientific portfolio, which has been developed by national science workshops, universities, research institutes, and space industry companies.
In addition to preparing the scientific content, the training of the astronaut and his backup, both selected by HUNOR’s experts, will continue. They will soon begin their mission-specific training in the United States.
