The roof structure of the Borostyán Med Hotel in Tamásipuszta caught fire Sunday evening and was burning in its entirety, a spokesman for the Hajdú-Bihar disaster management directorate told MTI.
Nóra Papp-Kunkli said that the fire, classified as grade five, was extinguished by firefighters from Debrecen, Nyíradony, and Szakoly with great effort. 85 people had to leave the hotel, she added.
The disaster management agency reported on its website that 64 firefighters were fighting the fire in Nyíradony-Tamásipuszta, on Akácos road, where the roof of the hotel was in flames. The fire spread over an area of about three to four thousand square meters and was extinguished from the ground by six water jets and from above by three more jets from the Nyíradony, Debrecen, Hajdúböszörmény, Nyírbátor, Hajdúszoboszló, Nyíregyháza, Fehérgyarmat, and Berettyóújfalu municipal units, as well as the municipal units of Szakoly.
Late Sunday evening, it was announced that firefighters had prevented the flames from spreading. The building was searched and valuable medical equipment was salvaged from the ground floor. The disaster management operational service was in charge of the scene. By Monday morning, the fire was extinguished.
