The EU must reject demands coming from Ukraine to freeze Hungary's EU funds, says Harald Vilimsky.Continue reading
Austrian MEP Harald Vilimsky spoke to Hungarian public media about the European Union’s policy towards China, the war in Ukraine, and the possibility of a new European conservative party family.
“The European liberal left believes in its moral superiority and thus in the conversion of other states to this left-liberal worldview. We see this in every political and social situation, whether inside or outside Europe. The Hungarians could say a thing or two about this, as they are the constant victims of this pseudo-moral supremacy,” said the politician from the right-wing Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), when asked what justifies the attitude of some Western politicians – like German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock – visiting China to lecture their leaders.
The fact is that Europe has to defend its own interests, but it cannot act as the world’s policeman,”
he stressed.
Vilimsky said that “EU centralists in Brussels and their friendly governments are crushing any sensible voice, such as that of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is calling for a ceasefire and peace.” “This is what we are seeing now, as shown by the calls for sanctions against Hungary,” he added.
In my view, Hungarians are central to the creation of a grand right-wing alliance, which would certainly carry weight at European level. Viktor Orban is currently the head of the conservative and patriotic parties in Europe,”
pointed out the Austrian MEP.
“They admire the Hungarians for their pride, patriotism, and courage to fight against the left-wing liberal and Eurocentric regime in the interests of their people,” he explained. Vilimsky said that “to succeed in uniting, it is necessary to emphasize what we have in common.”
“This means, among other things, standing up for a Europe of sovereign nations, against the continued influx of illegal immigrants and the EU’s policy of inclusion. We affirm the need to restore European cooperation to the values in the spirit of which the community was founded: peace, freedom, and prosperity. Hungary, led by a Fidesz government, could do something new, and everyone would follow. We should all take this opportunity. We must put aside the existing divisions and save the continent from the poisonous left-liberal ideology,” he said.
