Hungary Celebrates “1,100 Years in Europe, 20 Years in the Union”

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.08.06.

A series of cultural programs “1,100 Years in Europe, 20 Years in the Union” is starting in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary). Between August 10-16, the cultural strategic institutions are hosting 14 programs as a side event of the Székesfehérvár Royal Days.

Interactive exhibitions, theater, circus and dance performances, discussions, film screenings, craft activities, a Hungarikum playground and a ‘gastro bus’ offering the best of Hungarian cuisine are among the events on offer in Székesfehérvár. The Petőfi Cultural Agency’s press release says that the series of programs supported by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation will be launched at the weekend in the spirit of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The aim is to celebrate our cultural and historical heritage and traditions in a nationwide tour, together with cultural and strategic institutions, and to showcase the values of which we can be proud: all that we Hungarians have given to the world, to Europe and to the EU, be it art, innovation, sport or gastronomy,”

they write.

This idea is also embraced by the Kultúra.hu/mimagyarok website, which, in addition to a detailed program of events linked to the venues, offers constantly updated content on the traditions, values, natural and cultural heritage, greats and prides of our 1,100 years of common heritage, from artists and scientists to student Olympians.

Among the participating institutions are the Hungarian Heritage House, the National Archives of Hungary, and member institutions of the Public Collections Center of Hungarian National Museum.

During the series of events linked to the presidency, the participating institutions in each county seat will pay special attention to highlighting the values specific to the region and the county’s famous personalities,

thus drawing attention to the diversity and the staying power of our national roots and traditions,” the press release reads.

The second stop of the tour will be Sopron (western Hungary, on the Austrian border), where the events of the cultural program of “1,100 years in Europe, 20 years in the Union” will take place between August 17-21 in connection with the 35th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic.
