A bilateral meeting took place in Paris on December 13 at the invitation of General Thierry Burkhard, Chief of the French General Staff, with General Gábor Böröndi. This marked the first meeting of its kind in 22 years between the Chiefs of General Staff of the two nations.

The discussions included a comprehensive review of the current security landscape in regions such as Ukraine, the Middle East (specifically Gaza), and the Balkans. The meeting acknowledged Hungary’s intricate involvement in Chad, with the French side expressing support for Hungary’s presence in the Sahel region and actively participating in joint military activities.

During the visit, General Böröndi had the opportunity to visit the Operation Control Center of the Joint Force Operations Command (CPCO). The Hungarian delegation received briefings on ongoing French military operations and updates on the security situation in the Sahel region.

Furthermore, the Hungarian representatives gained insights into the key responsibilities of the French Space Forces Command (CDE), understanding its organizational structure, equipment, and plans for capability development.

As part of the collaboration, soldiers from the Hungarian Defense Forces will not only participate in the French AsterX 2024 exercise, but will also have the chance to serve in the soon-to-be-established Space Center of Excellence.
