The renovation of the Hungarian racing track (Mogyoród, near Budapest) is about to reach the finishing line, as the last roof structure element has been lifted onto the main ramp, reads the social media post by the Hungarian government.
The roof structure of the main stand has been lifted with a 650-ton crane, of which there is only one in Hungary, the post said. Over a thousand people are working every day to ensure that the Formula 1 track is renewed for the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix, they added.
As previously reported by Hungary Today, this year’s F1 Grand Prix will be held at the Hungaroring on August 1-3, therefore current investments must be completed by then. The facility is planned to be fully completed by 2026.
Zsolt Gyulay, Chairman and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt, said at a press conference on Monday that
the facility will be taken back by the operating company on June 16, to prepare for the 40th Hungarian F1 Grand Prix.
After the race weekend in August, the next phase of renovations will continue at the facility, which will be fully completed for next year’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
The CEO said that the new infrastructure will be put to the test at the GT Open in early July. He added that
a number of temporary solutions are also being put in place for the F1 weekend, making it an especially “interesting 40th Hungarian Grand Prix.”
“The paddock building is in order, the first level, where the paddock club will be, is just a matter of mechanical installations and the new 7x21m pits have been surfaced. The cladding of the building’s facade is also underway and the glazing will be completed in time for this year’s Formula 1 race weekend,” he detailed the progress of the works.
Regarding ticket sales, the CEO said that the event is expected to be a sell-out again this year, with very few tickets remaining.
“Of course, it is important to sum up the past 40 years, hence there will be celebrations, but as this year’s race weekend will be a big challenge from an organizational point of view with a lot of temporary solutions,
we are planning the big celebration for next year, the Hungaroring’s 40th birthday.
At the same time, we will officially name this year’s Corner 4 the “Mansell Corner,” and we have contacted Nigel Mansell, who will send us his handprint,” said Zsolt Gyulay.
