Hungaroring Renovation Entering Final Stretch

Hungary Today 2025.05.09.

With three months to go before the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix, the Hungaroring (in Mogyoród, near Budapest) renovation seems to be entering the final stretch, as the latest on-site photos show.

“The finish straight is ready for racing (the protective cover that had been disfiguring it for months has finally been removed), the garages are almost ready for the teams to move in, and the main grandstand will soon be full of spectators,” reads the social media post of the race track operator.

With 1,200 people working every day, the Hungaroring is now entering the final phase of preparations for the Hungarian GP,”

they added, attaching photos of the current state of the works.

This year’s F1 Grand Prix will be held at the Hungaroring between August 1-3, therefore current investments must be completed by then. The facility is planned to be fully completed by 2026.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will be the 14th race weekend of this year’s 24-race World Championship. As reported by Hungary Today, last year’s race was a double victory for McLaren, with Australian Oscar Piastri taking the chequered flag first and his teammate Lando Norris finishing second.

The current investment amounts to HUF 78.9 billion (EUR 195 million). It will include the renewal of the main stand, the main building, and two tunnels leading from the paddock to the Super Gold grandstand. This development is part of a larger renovation project costing HUF 105 billion (EUR 260 million).

CEO Zsolt Gyulay said earlier that the new infrastructure will be put to the test at the GT Open in early July.

After the race weekend in August, the next phase of renovations will continue at the facility, which will be fully completed for next year’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Hungaroring has a Formula 1 contract until 2032, therefore it will host at least eight more races. It is worth noting, however, that most of the European venues will also be out of contract in three years’ time. The only two exceptions are Austria’s Red Bull Ring and the Hungaroring, so fans should not worry about the future of the Mogyoród circuit.
