Hungarian Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and his Turkish counterpart Yasar Güler

Hungarian Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky held talks with the Turkish Defense Minister in Budapest on Thursday. During the meeting, they reviewed the defense and security policy cooperation between the two countries. They also discussed cooperation between Hungary and Turkey in the defense industry.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky briefed Yasar Güler on the development of the defense forces, which includes the acquisition of NATO-compatible equipment for the entire Hungarian armed forces. They will also develop Hungary’s defense industry, ensuring uninterrupted supply of the equipment and contributing to Hungary’s economic development.

The Hungarian Minister stressed that

every forint spent on force development simultaneously develops the Hungarian economy and infrastructure.

He mentioned that the Gidrán armored combat vehicles will be produced in Hungary with the cooperation of Hungarian automotive manufacturer Rába and Turkish company Nurol Makina. Through this, one of the most important assets of the renewed Hungarian armed forces will be a combat vehicle produced in Hungary under a Turkish license, thus contributing to the strengthening of bilateral relations, he said.

Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Güler said that they had a frank and constructive discussion and that they attached great importance to cooperation with the “brotherly, allied and friendly” Hungary. He added that they reviewed bilateral relations, security in the Euro-Atlantic area, and issues related to the two countries’ NATO membership.

Güler said

they also expressed their commitment to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense industry.

He praised “the growth of the Hungarian armed forces” and invited Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky to Turkey.
