Hungarian tourism will do very well in 2025, according to the latest statement by the Ministry for National Economy. In June, almost 1.9 million guests arrived at domestic accommodation establishments, spending more than 4.4 million guest nights, an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year.

In the first six months of the year, a total of 8.2 million guests stayed in Hungary – almost eight percent more than in the same period in 2024. And the number of guest nights exceeded 18.9 million.

The number of domestic guests in June was one million, while the number of foreign guests was 889,000, an increase of 6.8%. Lake Balaton remains the most popular region, with more than one million overnight stays. In Budapest, nearly 1.5 million nights were spent, more than 86% of them by foreigners.

Hotels generated 108 billion forints (270.7 million euros) in revenue in June, of which 61.1 billion forints (153.2 million euros) were generated in the countryside. And the revenue of restaurants was 201.4 billion forints (504.9 million euros) throughout the month.

In the first half of the year, the total revenue of accommodation establishments rose to 490.6 billion forints (1.23 billion euros), while that of restaurants exceeded 1,017 billion forints (2.55 billion euros).

According to the Ministry, the government’s goal remains to make tourism, which accounts for 13% of GDP, one of the main drivers of the Hungarian economy in the long term.
