Francois President Brut and Francois President Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2018 have won gold medals at one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions, Mundus Vin in Germany, according to Törley Winery, the producer of Francois sparkling wines, reported Világgazdaság.
At the Mundus Vin competition in Germany, 250 wine experts from 55 countries tasted the nominated wines coming from 45 countries in over 10,000 bottles. Róbert Koczuba, Törley’s Champagne Master, says the win is the fruit of many years of work, knowledge, patience, and attention. In addition, of course, you need the raw materials to make these sumptuous and immersive sparkling wines.
We believe that our vineyards in Etyek (central Hungary) produce the best and finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in the country, which are suitable for making these treasures,”
he said.

Francois President Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2018 is special because it was made exclusively for the Michelin-starred Babel Budapest restaurant.
The history of Francois sparkling wines goes back 138 years. Louis François and Cézar Francois, the founders of the company, were the youngest members of an old Champagne family of champagne masters. Louis first arrived in Hungary as the Champagne Master of József Törley’s new winery, followed a few years later by his younger brother Cézar. Louis left Törley to set up his own business with his brother, founding the now iconic Louis Francois & Co. Sparkling Wine Winery, which has been part of Törley since 1982, when the Törley Champagne Company bought the name from the family and renovated the original cellars.

Törley is the leading sparkling wine producer in Hungary. It was founded by József Törley in 1882 in Budafok, a district in Budapest, and over the course of the following years became one of the leading sparkling wine producers in Europe.
