In 2021, Hungary was not only exposed to winter conditions during the winter months, but also on some days in the spring. Those who love a white landscape have been able to enjoy the snow many times this year in Hungary. We made a gallery with spectacular photos of the whole year. The following pictures show the breathtakingly beautiful, snowy landscapes, as well as Hungary’s wintry atmosphere in different parts of the country.

Although there was not much snow in the winter season 2020/21 until January, the new year brought cold weather, and half of the country was covered in snow. In some regions, there were even 10-15 centimeters of snowfall.

On February 13th record cold weather was reported in Hungary. On that day, the Bükk Plateau reached a temperature of minus 35.5 degrees Celsius.
Hungary’s previous cold record temperature was minus 35 degrees, reported on February 16, 1940, in Miskolc-Görömbölytapolca.

The first snow of the winter season 2021/22 fell on October 11 in Hungary. Snow fell for a short time in the Mátra Mountains of northern Hungary. A few days later, a bigger snowfall came and the higher peaks of the north Hungarian Bükk and Mátra mountains were covered by a layer of snow several centimeters thick.

Already in the first week of December, it has snowed in many parts of the country; in the northern Hungarian Mátra Mountains, the fresh snow has even reached more than 15 cm.

On December 9, heavy snowfall continued in western Hungary, but snow also fell in other parts of the country. For winter sports enthusiasts the day brought good news: on this day the ski arena of Eplény opened for the season.
