Hungarian Scientists Develop Mycotoxin-Free Mushroom Farming

MTI-Hungary Today 2021.07.07.

Hungarian scientists have developed a safe method for mushroom farming, eliminating the presence of toxic substances produced by fungi, agricultural university MATE told MTI on Wednesday.

Professor Emeritus Péter Fodor said that the over 1 billion forint (EUR 2.8m) research and development project was aimed at defining bacteria aimed at decomposing mycotoxins produced in agricultural waste used in farming, as well as building a system to monitor mycotoxin concentrations throughout the farming process.

The project was implemented by a consortium of Bio-Fungi Kft, several MATE institutes and the microbiology department of Budapest’s ELTE university.
