Hungarian MEP Criticizes the EU’s Newly Accepted Media Law

Hungary Today 2024.03.13.

The European Parliament today adopted the so-called EU media law. Although the proposed regulation was supposed to protect “media pluralism” and “media independence,” it is, in fact, a Brussels censorship law that seeks to regulate national media systems based on the opinions of Soros-network organizations and interferes with the competences of member states.

Commenting on the decision, Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor said, “the EU regulation aims to ensure that only the voice of Brussels can be heard in the national public sphere, and creates an opportunity for Brussels to suppress national and Christian conservative opinions and values. This is unacceptable.

Brussels is building total control over the media, a centralized censorship, before our very eyes.”

Ms. Bocskor emphasized the insidious nature of the legislation, pointing out that it is an extension of the EU’s powers into areas that should be the competence of member states, as outlined in the EU’s founding treaties. He stressed Hungary’s commitment to free expression and diverse media content, citing the nation’s historical understanding of press freedom dating back to 1848.

She condemned the regulation as a tool to weaken and silence right-wing forces, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming EP elections.

“We stand up for Hungary’s sovereignty and for freedom of opinion and expression,” declared the MEP, affirming the nation’s determination to resist undue interference from Brussels.
