TV channel RTL got the opportuinty to report on the coronavirus situation from the Greek Catholic hospital in Kisvárda, broadcasting rare footage. The staff also talked about their experiences.
According to staff working in covid departments, although some patients have been vaccinated, the majority are unvaccinated. Their status is constantly changing.
According to the report, “two patients were under deep anesthesia on ventilators, which means that all their vital functions are now supported by machines.” Moving patients under anesthesia requires coordinated work, and the report showed that six nurses/doctors were exerting force at the same time.
Those who work there say that the physical strain, the constant readiness, is becoming harder every day, but the most heartbreaking is when whole families or someone they know are taken to the hopital in severe condition due to covid infection. In the latter case, Csilla Deák, a nurse, indicated in the interview that they had lost a nurse in one of their institutions “and unfortunately we had to watch that, so I don’t think anyone in our institution has recovered from that.”
In 2021, there were 30,000 victims of the epidemic in Hungary, three times more than in 2020. RTL News calculated that in Hungary last year, someone died every 18 minutes from complications of the coronavirus.
