After Dominik Szoboszlai, who signed for Liverpool, national team teammates Milos Kerkez and now Attila Szalai have been paid the equivalent of over €10 million, setting another new Hungarian record, reports Világgazdaság.
After Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, Attila Szalai has been also sold, adding to an already record transfer window.
When English club Liverpool activated the €70 million buyout price on Szoboszlai’s contract at the beginning of July and transferred him from German side RB Leipzig, it was instantly a done deal:
this summer will be a peak for Hungarian players, as never before has so much money been moved on the football market for our players.
The question remained as to where the counter would stop, as it was already known that European clubs were lining up for the two Hungarian national team players, Kerkez and Szalai – well, the 100 million euro mark would certainly be crossed.
Kerkez’s future was decided earlier. He is the new key player of the Premier League Team, Bournemouth.
There was a long list of clubs interested in Szalai. Two weeks ago it looked as if he would join András Schäfer, another Hungarian international player, at his club Union Berlin, who finished fourth in the German Bundesliga; however, he is now heading to the other side of the country.
TSG 1899 Hoffeinheim, who finished 12th in the last league, will pay between €12 and €15 million for the rising star,
depending on final negotiations and bonuses.
His former team, Turkish Fenerbahce, made an official announcement last week that they had given permission for negotiations to be completed.
Fenerbahce, winners of this year’s Turkish Cup, are losing an important man, but at a big profit, having bought him for €2.2m in January 2021 and sold him to Hoffenheim for six-and-a-half times that amount two-and-a-half years later. By Monday afternoon,
official confirmation had arrived: Szalai has signed for Germany until 2027.
His new team will next play Scottish side Rangers on Saturday, and our compatriot could even make his debut then.
As for the total: with this transfer, we have crossed the 100 million euro mark, as Szoboszlai’s 70 million, Kerkez’s 18 million euros converted at the daily exchange rate, and Szalai’s 12-15 million will add up to 100-103 million euros.
