The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) is working together with the local authorities to ensure that Hungarian fans can march together to the venue of the UEFA Euro 2024 group match against Germany in Stuttgart on Wednesday, as they did for the Hungarian national team’s first clash in Cologne.

“The meeting point will be at the Mittlerer Schlossgarten (park) from 12 p.m., and the fans can expect a longer march this time than on Saturday,” explained MLSZ spokesperson Jenő Sipos.

Everyone takes part in the march at their own discretion,

he added. The Mittlerer Schlossgarten is located in the immediate vicinity of Stuttgart’s main railway station (Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof). The MLSZ spokesman reminded fans traveling to Germany that border controls have been reintroduced for the duration of the European Championship, therefore everyone should travel with valid documents as these may be checked at the German border.

“Fans with a valid ticket can use public transport free of charge until 6 p.m. on the day of the match and the following day. Regardless of age, only valid tickets will be accepted for entry to the Stuttgart stadium. Strict controls will be carried out around the stadium and at the entrance. Possession of stabbing, cutting, and pyrotechnic objects will result in police action,” emphasized Sipos, who advised fans to download the EURO2024 app and follow the MLSZ website and the federation’s social media platforms. The spokesman underlined that he continues to encourage everyone to register for consular protection so that local consuls can help anyone with problems.

Four fan zones have been set up in Stuttgart on the extensive grounds of the Marktplatz event center next to the town hall.

Anyone who has not been able to get tickets and will not be in the stadium can watch the game from there. There will also be a number of additional activities in the fan zone, such as Teqball, a Hungarian invention, and even the basics of beach soccer can be learned at the venue. The organizers have also set up a fan store where visitors can buy a range of souvenirs. Among other things, the official jerseys of the 24 national teams taking part in the European Championships will be on sale, with a jersey for the Hungarian national team costing EUR 100.

The Hungarian national team’s fan group, the Carpathian Brigade ’09, has already announced on its social media page that

the group is preparing for the group match against Germany with the “biggest away spectacle that will require the active participation of more than 10,000 Hungarian fans.”

Although there have been politically motivated articles in the German press with a hostile tone about Hungarian fans, there have been no riots by them so far. The same cannot be said of fans from other countries. On Saturday, an Albanian supporter stormed onto the pitch during the match between Italy and Albania, and on Sunday, fans of the England and Serbia teams got into a brawl.

Following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Switzerland, the Hungarian national football team will play a crucial qualifier in Stuttgart on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against hosts Germany, who defeated Scotland 5-1 in their opening match on Friday.
