The use of the mother tongue of Hungarians living in neighboring countries was on the agenda of the policy working group of the Carpathian Basin Forum of Hungarian Representatives (KMKF) in Budapest on Thursday.
Fidesz MP István Vitányi, co-chairman of the body, said at a press conference after the meeting that 85 percent of the results they discussed were positive. He mentioned the Rákóczi Association’s school selection campaign and the school bus program, in which 16 vehicles were put into service, and perhaps thanks to this, the number of Hungarian primary school enrolments in Slovakia increased by 30 percent.
Significant progress has also been made in Transylvania, where the Romanian Chamber of Deputies is currently debating the education law, which includes several points initiated by the ethnic Hungarian RMDSZ party, as a member of the governing coalition.
