Hungarian Defense Projects to Accelerate

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.09.30.

The development of military forces will continue despite the global economic crisis the Defense Minister stressed on Thursday.

During his summary at the end of the combat exercise Brave Warrior 2022, conducted by a multi-national battalion combat team, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky recalled that the Hungarian Defense Forces started a major force development process years ago, aiming at technological renewal and the deployment of more soldiers. He indicated that some of the new equipment that will form the backbone of the Hungarian Army of the 21st century had already participated in the international exercise and had performed excellently.

The minister cited the Turkish-made Gidran combat vehicle and the German Leopard tank as examples, the latter “taking the battlefield with incredible strength and confidence”.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the North Atlantic Council had acted swiftly to call on member states to create four additional battle groups to the four already existing ones, in order to reinforce NATO’s eastern border against the potential threat of war. The government acted immediately to create the Multinational Combat Group with a High Vigilance Task Force, whose main framework nations are Hungary, Croatia, Turkey and Italy, and in the recent exercise, which “combined the combat group into a single unit”, the United States and a company of Slovak forces joined them.

According to the Minister, the exercise was a great success, as evidenced by the fact that the Hungarian-led battle group received a full operational capability rating from the NATO headquarters chief present, which is a serious acknowledgement of the work and service that Hungarian soldiers have performed in the international community. The exercise was a testimony to serious military preparedness, international cooperation and the outstanding performance of Hungarian soldiers, he added.
