Hungarian Defense Forces Conquer the Night

The Brave Warrior 2023 exercise concluded with a technical day, during which the participating sub-units presented their achievements so far, with a special focus on night operations in limited visibility conditions. According to Brigadier General Gábor Lőrincz, Commander of the Land Command of the Hungarian Defense Forces, this type of capability development is a big step forward, reported honvedelem.hu.

About 1,000 soldiers and 120 technical apparatus from four nations of NATO’s Enhanced Vigilance Activity Battle Group (eVA BG HUN) participated in the Brave Warrior 2023 exercise. On a technical day held as part of the final part of the series of sessions, the participants of the exercise also demonstrated night live-fire, chemical warfare clearance, and logistics exercises for the combat re-fueling of various military equipment with fuel and ammunition.

As the Brigadier General, also the director of the exercise pointed out, this year the personnel performed the tasks mostly at night and logistics and chemical defense were emphasized. According to Lőrincz, these are the areas of expertise that

nobody notices when they are working well, but when a problem arises, they immediately become the most important.”

He added that in the field of chemical defense capabilities, the Hungarian Defense Forces have the necessary level, but the level of capability needs to be increased.

He also explained that for mechanized forces such as tanks or mechanized riflemen, the way in which military equipment is delivered to the area of operations, where fuel and ammunition are obtained and where soldiers get food from, in other words logistics, is also crucial. On the subject of night operations, he also spoke about the different night capabilities of nations, stressing that our country has made great progress in this area with the Leopard 2A4 tanks and the Gidran armored fighting vehicles.

Commenting on the results achieved during the exercise and the night executions, Brigadier General Lőrincz underlined that this exercise was a good one and a big step towards developing even more complex capabilities in the future.
