Tamás Deák, the multiple Hungarian champion kitesurfer, set a new record at the Keszthely-Balatonkenese (western shore – northern shore of Lake Balaton) speed race on July 6.
According to Index, the athlete completed the 80-kilometer aerial distance in 1 hour and 21 minutes on a hydrofoil type kitesurf board, 15 minutes faster than the previous record.
The race, originally organized for sailors in 1921, now includes various water sports equipment. Participants must confirm their departure and arrival times with a stamp at the railway stations in Keszthely and Balatonkenese, maintaining the tradition of the event.
Deák holds the absolute time record with a speed of 57.4 km/h.
Two years ago, he was preparing for the 2024 Olympics in formula kite, but his passion shifted to kitesurfing while managing the software company Kameleo. This was his first attempt at the distance, resulting in a record. Deák expressed his love for innovation, speed, and technology, drawing parallels between running a company and competing in sports.
