Fatima Korok has set a world record of 102 meters in the Vertical Blue competition near the Bahamas for the AIDA (International Association for the Development of Apnea) rules-based freediving dive, reports Nemzeti Sport.
According to the event’s scoreboard, the 30-year-old Hungarian athlete spent 3:47 minutes in the water with a single breath during the world record.
“I am proud of myself and very happy that I made the dive. I enjoyed it and kept myself under control throughout the attempt,” said Fatima Korok, who improved the 2021 record set by Alessia Zecchini by one meter.
The Hungarian athlete’s world record can be seen in the video from 2:51:30.
Fatima Korok had previously attempted to break the world record several times. Her achievement is also special because the 30-year-old has only been competing internationally since 2019, so she has reached the world record in less than five years.
