Hungarian Astronauts One Step Closer to Space Travel

Hungary Today 2025.04.14.

The astronauts of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), including Hungarian research astronaut Tibor Kapu and his backup Gyula Cserényi, have successfully completed NASA’s astronaut training, the HUNOR – Hungarian to Orbit Astronaut Program announced on its Facebook page on Saturday.

They recalled that the training started in August 2024, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where the Ax-4 crew members underwent intensive education and hands-on training.

During the program, astronauts practiced on realistic models of the International Space Station’s modules, practicing operations on the space station, emergency procedures, and conducting scientific experiments.

This program was complemented by special modules provided by Axiom Space and by SpaceX training sessions, which focused on the Dragon spacecraft. The end of training was marked by a traditional patch ceremony, where the Ax-4 team celebrated with NASA and Axiom Space mission controllers.

The Ax-4 astronauts now entered the final phase of their preparations, with launch planned for May 2025, at the earliest.

The crew members are ready to carry out their mission in orbit around the Earth, the HUNOR program emphasized.
