Household Energy Remains the Cheapest in Hungary within Europe

Szilárd Németh, government commissioner responsible for maintaining utility cost reduction, published the closed data of the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority showing the residential electricity and natural gas tariffs of European capitals, reports Magyar Nemzet.

Hungarians still receive the cheapest household energy in Europe, the government commissioner wrote on his social media page on Wednesday. Up to the average level of consumption, each Hungarian household saved HUF 181,000 (EUR 470) per month, he emphasized.

Based on the data of the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority, the average price of natural gas for households was highest in Stockholm at 28.31 EUR cents/kWh, while in Budapest it was 2.69 EUR cents. Electricity for households is most expensive in Dublin, at 47.12 EUR cents/kWh. In Budapest it is 9.77 EUR cents, and in Belgrade 9.76 EUR cents.

Fact

Last year, the Hungarian government decided to maintain the reduction of the electricity bill up to the level of average consumption. This rate is 1729 cubic meters per year for gas and 2523 kilowatt hours per year for electricity. In August this year, the government announced that this initiative would continue. At the time, Szilárd Németh stated that the necessary funds would of course be available in the state budget for 2024.
