House of Music Awaits Visitors with Mesmerizing Festival

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.01.06.

On the occasion of the reopening of the 360-degree screening room of the House of Music Hungary, the Sound Dome (Hangdóm), an audiovisual festival will be held between January 14 and 19, the institution informed MTI.

On January 15, The Mysterious City Park, produced in collaboration with Animatiqua, will make its debut at a screening accompanied by a discussion with the filmmakers. The film offers a glimpse into the history of the Liget (City Park) from the turn of the century to the mid-20th century, with an animated 360-degree adaptation of photographs from the Fortepan collection. Narrated by renowned actor Pál Mácsai, the film presents short stories.

In addition to the new premiere, previous screenings and their creators will return to the venue for post-screening talks and Q&A sessions with the audience. The 360-degree video clip compilation based on Platon Karataev’s Sunset album, one of the most watched programs at the Sound Dome to date, will be shown again. The screening of Sunset was awarded the Music Hungary Visual Award in autumn 2024.

The visual and musical world of Tibor Szemző’s nearly one-hour film Csoma Kaleidoscope is based on the composer and media artist’s Arboretum Suite (2002) and The Guest of Life (2006).

In the screening, the Sound Dome acts as a magical kaleidoscope, the music and soundscape evoking in a unique way the Himalayan experiences in which the pilgrim-scientist Sándor Kőrösi Csoma lived his days among the mountains.

The House of Music pays tribute to the work of composer György Ligeti with a double screening. One of his best-known compositions, Poème Symphonique For 100 Metronomes and the Sound Dome projection based on it, will trigger hypnotic and profound reflections on time, existence, and our relationship with the universe. This is followed by the first part of a four-movement work, Chamber Concerto for Thirteen Instruments, recorded with thirteen musicians at Pannonia Film Studio.

The screening of Sound Dome – The Intergalactic Gateway, accompanied by a discussion, will reveal the workings of the dome and the many uses of panoramic projection and surround sound. Dávid Szauder’s Mastery of Intelligence reinterprets the classical art of the last 2000 years through AI imaging.

Furthermore, performance and sound artist Dávid Somló’s experimental film Spaces Speak, Can You Hear? brings together dreamlike animations of his own analogue photographs with imagined soundscapes.

There will also be art films on the works of Renoir, Bosch, and Csontváry, and a nature film, The Blue Blooded Goat, produced in collaboration with the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society.

In the upgraded Sound Dome 360 cinema, screenings will be held every day at various times from the reopening festival onward, ranging from art history to animated shorts, family and nature films, and abstract contemporary experimental films.
