With a bit of exaggeration, Hollywood stars have been “flocking” to Budapest in recent years, but there are still some whose arrival attracts extraordinary attention. One of them is John Malkovich, who has recently visited the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery.
The Museum of Fine Arts has published photos of the Hollywood star’s visit, writes Magyar Nemzet. The institution posted for the first time on Saturday that the world-famous American actor and his partner had been given a guided tour by General Director László Baán.
Then, in photos newly released on Sunday, it was revealed that Malkovich was accompanied by former government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkirályi, who was Fidesz’s candidate for mayor until her withdrawal. There is no information yet that the American actor is in Hungary for filming.
As the cultural institution wrote in a Facebook post, they are honored that John Malkovich visited the museum.
The two-time Academy Award-nominated actor also paid a visit to the Hungarian National Gallery.
The details can be found on the museum’s Instagram page: “Who and what were the favorites of John Malkovich, the world-famous American actor from the film Les Misérables? Károly Ferenczy, József Rippl-Rónai, Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka and Gyula Benczúr were all works that really captivated him – so much so that he photographed the masterpiece ‘The Baptism of Vajk’ to take home as a memento,” the gallery wrote in a post.

The last time Malkovich was in Hungary was two years ago, when he performed at the Erkel Theater. The two-time Academy Award-nominated actor took the stage with a musical stand-up version of The Music Critic. In the performance, the music critic, played by John Malkovich, takes on some of the most iconic pieces of classical music, and between each track he delivers some of the most vicious quotes from contemporary critics about world-famous composers and their works. The production premiered in 2017 and has since been a huge success around the world.
John Malkovich is one of the world’s most popular actors and performers, having starred in Les Misérables, Being John Malkovich, Red, The New Pope, Johnny English and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He is also one of the world’s leading stage actors and has performed in theater productions in Hungary on several occasions.
