Artúr Hajós and Bence Stréli won gold medals at the Middle European Volleyball Zonal Association (MEVZA) beach volleyball tournament in Kranj, Slovenia.
The Hungarian Volleyball Federation (MRSZ) said on its website that the four-time national champion pair had not previously won a medal at an international tournament where world ranking points can be earned.
The Hajós-Stréli pair finished first in their group and qualified for the quarter-finals of the two-day tournament, where they beat the top-seeded Austrian pair of Lorenz Petutschnig and Florian Schnetzer 2-1.
In the semi-finals, they beat a Czech pair 2-1, and in the final they were joined by Klemen Sen and Nejc Zemljak, representing their home country, who they beat 2-0.
Among the other Hungarian pairs in the tournament, Csanád Frányó and Mátyás Papp, Patrícia Juraszik and Csenge Villám, Hanna Gubik and Eszter Nagy all suffered narrow defeats to reach the last eight, finishing in ninth place.
