The government is allocating 381 million HUF (approx. 954,000 EUR) to build a temporary bathhouse and draft a long-term redevelopment plan for the Hévíz Lake Baths, State Secretary for Transport Bálint Nagy announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Bálint Nagy emphasized that Lake Hévíz and the high-quality health facility built on its shores welcome around one million guests from all over the world every year. This is an institution and piece of infrastructure that is extremely important not only for the region but also for the country as a whole, and one of its lake structures had to be closed in the spring for structural reasons.

The part of the building, which was built in 1968, was last renovated in 2005. Based on tests carried out in March, the main part of the lake structure had become dangerous, which is why it had to be closed, he said.

The State Secretary emphasized that the lake baths and services on or connected to the lake are currently operating without disruption and are open to visitors.

The government decision also states that a long-term development concept for Lake Hévíz and the Hévíz hospital must be put on the table by the end of September in order to ensure that the facility can maintain its high level of service in the future, the State Secretary said.

Nagy noted that the temporary structure is also necessary because the comprehensive renovation and development must be carried out in such a way as to ensure that the lake remains accessible to visitors. He said he hopes that the temporary structure will be completed by the end of this year. When asked how much the complete renovation of the spa is expected to cost, he estimated that the investment in the entire infrastructure around the lake, including the hospital, will amount to tens of billions of forints.
