For the second time this summer, a code red is in effect due to the heatwave, the State Secretary for Care Policy said on his Facebook page on Monday.
Attila Fülöp wrote that due to the special weather conditions, the code red is in force until 12 a.m. on Friday throughout the country. According to the information, taking into account the forecast of the HungaroMet Zrt., the daily average temperature will reach and in many places exceed 27 degrees Celsius for several days.
The declaration of a code red will entail a special procedure, as all social institutions will have to be open.
If the regional dispatch service receives information about a person in need on the street, such an institution is obliged to take him/her in. The occupancy rate of night shelters is currently 76.36 percent nationwide and 74.62 percent in Budapest, the State Secretary added. Attila Fülöp stressed that if someone sees a homeless person in need, they should call the regional dispatch service, which can take immediate action on the basis of the information provided.

MÁV staff will be distributing water to passengers for the rest of the week due to the heatwave, the Hungarian railway company said on its Facebook page.
“We are trying to reduce the discomfort caused by the heat for our passengers during the heatwave this week, therefore
until Friday this week, or as long as the heat alert makes it necessary, we will distribute bottled water daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Budapest main stations and major rural railway stations,”
they wrote. They added that Volánbusz (passenger bus company) distributes bottled water to passengers at the Népliget bus station in Budapest and at busy bus stations in cities between 12-14 p.m. on weekdays. However, they warned that they can only provide water while stocks last, therefore passengers are asked to always take enough beverage with them on their journey.
