In January, there was an average wage increase of 11 percent for doctors, and the second stage of the wage reform for professional staff and nurses will be implemented next March, the Interior Minister said at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Social Welfare Committee on Tuesday.
During his annual hearing, Sándor Pintér noted that the average salary of doctors is currently HUF 2,197,000 (EUR 5,818), while that of nurses is HUF 595,000 (EUR 1,575). The remuneration of specialist nurses is based on that of doctors. The minister stressed that specialist nurses of course deserve to earn more than this, but the current economic situation only allows for this. He also said that the situation of the Hungarian health sector had improved in the last year, since the Ministry of the Interior took over the coordination of the sector’s tasks, and that the government would create the best health system in Europe.

He noted that
Hungary had been ahead of the rest of Europe with the introduction of the electronic health service space.
The minister also spoke about the reduction of bureaucracy, saying that digital solutions are already available in the system to help relieve bedside nurses of a significant administrative burden, while reducing the possibility of errors.
He also announced that the government is currently discussing the possibility of bringing the salaries of social workers who also perform health tasks into line with those of health workers. This measure is expected next year.
