Marco Rossi, head coach of the Hungarian national football team, announced on Tuesday his 26-man squad for the UEFA Euro 2024, writes Index. The European Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14, and the Hungarian team face Switzerland and Scotland in the group stage, alongside the hosts.

  • Goalkeepers: Dénes Dibusz, Péter Gulácsi, Péter Szappanos
  • Defenders: Botond Balogh, Endre Botka, Márton Dárdai, Attila Fiola, Ádám Lang, Willi Orbán, Attila Szalai
  • Midfielders: Bendegúz Bolla, Mihály Kata, Milos Kerkez, László Kleinheisler, Ádám Nagy, Zsolt Nagy, Loïc Négo, András Schäfer, Callum Styles
  • Strikers: Martin Ádám, Kevin Csoboth, Dániel Gazdag, Krisztofer Horváth, Roland Sallai, Dominik Szoboszlai, Barnabás Varga
  • Reserves: Krisztián Lisztes, Attila Mocsi, Balázs Tóth, Zalán Vancsa, Bálint Vécsei

Attila Fiola, who recently underwent surgery, and Ádám Lang, who is also injured, have been included in the squad, as both are expected to recover before the start of the tournament. Also in the squad are RB Leipzig goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, who returned from a long injury absence for the spring pre-season games, and Union Berlin midfielder András Schäfer. Márton Dárdai, who also plays for Bundesliga second division side Hertha, is on the team as well.

“I have to say that after a long time – including key players – everyone can be called up. There are two question marks, Fiola and Lang, but of course we are in contact with them. Our medical staff have also consulted them, thus it looks like they can join us. Since September 2022, we have not had a preparation without a missing player, I am very happy,” Rossi emphasized.

Asked by a journalist what he thought about the expansion of the squad, he stressed that it was created by big teams like Germany. There he believes that at least 20 players can be called up, whereas in their case – assuming everyone is healthy – he can count on 15-16 players.

On whether he chooses Dibusz or Gulácsi for the starting team, he noted: “I have an idea, but I have not decided yet. Once I have made it, I will talk to them at the same time. It will not be easy to say the final answer, but they both know very well how much I value them both professionally and as people. (…) This squad is absolutely competitive. 99 percent that they will win, but they must be on their guard,” he concluded.

The team will meet in Telki (near Budapest) for training on May 27. However, four players – Martin Ádám, Dániel Gazdag, Bendegúz Bolla, and Callum Styles – will join the squad later due to club commitments.
