On Tuesday night, the website mennyiterek.sk, created by Pro Civis, a minority advocacy group helping the Hungarian minority, was attacked online, reported the Slovakian-Hungarian website Ma7.sk.
A so-called DDoS attack was used to try to make the website, explaining the undemocratic nature of the Slovakian settlement-support system that discriminates against the Hungarian community, inaccessible, said Péter Őry, president of the association.

The idea behind such overload attacks is to prevent users from accessing information that is important to them, as the attack slows down the system and, in severe cases, even causes it to crash.
The attack on the website was brought to the attention of Pro Civis staff by a visitor to mennyiterek.sk, who immediately alerted the association’s IT specialist. The attack took place after the Alliance (Szövettség), the political party representing Hungarians in Slovakia, shared a Pro Civis study on its social networking site, which shows the economic disadvantage suffered by Hungarian municipalities, which are typically located in flat geographic areas, due to the geographic height quotas that play a significant role in the redistribution of state tax revenues to municipalities.
The owners have managed to restore access to the website on Wednesday morning, but concerns remain about the motifs behind the attack.
